Printmaking: COLLOGRAPH and DRYPOINT

Dates: 9–12 January 2026
Time: 10am–4pm
Fee: £260
Age/ability: Adults, all abilities welcome
Tutor: Phoebe Stannard and Sam Halstead
Course Description:
Explore the dynamic and tactile world of collagraph printmaking in this four-day immersive workshop led by professional artist Phoebe Stannard. Derived from the Greek words ‘colla’ (glue) and ‘graph’ (to draw), collagraph involves creating textured printing plates by layering various materials to form a collage. These plates can be printed using relief or intaglio techniques, offering endless creative possibilities.
The course begins with drawing sessions around the historic Boscastle harbour, encouraging you to observe and capture textures, shapes, and compositions directly from the environment. Back in our bespoke printing studio, you will develop these drawings into collagraph and drypoint plates, learning how to build up complex textures and imagery. You will print your work using our versatile and comfortable gear-driven No.3 Ironbridge press, and we use Caligo Safe Wash inks—oil-based yet water-soluble—offering the rich quality of traditional oil inks with a more environmentally friendly clean-up process.
Group size is limited to 6 to ensure ample space and individual tuition. All materials are provided. Please wear messy clothes or bring an apron. Waterproof clothing is also recommended for outdoor drawing.
