Half Acre is a unique artists studio and garden designed and created by Carole Vincent (1939-2019) artist and teacher, in the beautiful Cornish coastal village of Boscastle. Reopened by artists Sam Halstead and Phoebe Stannard in August 2019, Half Acre Studios will remain a space for creativity, art and teaching.
Our aim is to support local artists with regular groups, including life drawing, painting, sculpture and printmaking, along with short courses and week long courses open to all. In addition we wish to foster creativity in the younger generation of artists, to complement the work of local schools and enhance the career prospects of young local artists by running a regular young artists programme.
We aim to engage with the local community and facilitate a broad experience of art, through individual tuition, encouragement, art history and creative approaches to making and observation, we hope Half Acre Studios will continue to be a creative hub.

Carole Vincent (1939 - 2019)
Carole Vincent (1939-2019) founded Half Acre Studios. Vincent was a sculptor, painter, teacher, concrete technologist and gardener.
Best known for her work in concrete which explored the use of natural colour, texture and form. In 1992, Carole began experiments with pigments and concrete, pushing the boundaries beyond the enhancement of natural stone colours. Her discovery of bright reds, yellows and greens as well as blues offered the full palette of a painter in a 3D material. Mainly working by commission for specific environments, ranging from public spaces to individual buildings and gardens, Vincents' work includes The Armada Dial (1988) in Plymouth City Centre, The Pedestrians (1989) in Devon, Colloquy (1994) in Singapore, Les Jongleurs (1996) and La Citadelle (2005) in Jersey, The Red Carpet (1999) in Edinburgh, Sea Stack (2008) in Alderney and The Bude Light (2000). Vincent was the first winner of the British Precast "Creativity in Concrete" award in 2007. Vincent was an avid gardener, creating a sculpture garden at Half Acre over her life time. Overlooking cliffs and sea, the garden is set in 1½ acres, surrounding the cottage and studios, with a small wood. Vincent's sculptures occupy small spaces or command a view all around the garden. The Blue Circle Garden (in the garden at Half Acre) won a Bronze Medal at the Royal Horticultural Society's Chelsea Flower Show in 2001. The Garden is part of the National Garden Scheme. |
