Phoebe Stannard graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art (Painting) from Norwich School of Art in 2008 and went on to complete The Drawing Year at the Royal Drawing School in 2010. Working across a range of media—including drawing, painting, printmaking, and medallic art—her practice is shaped by a deep love of narrative and material.
Born and raised in Rome, Italy, Phoebe’s work draws on her childhood experiences of theatre, circus, and puppet shows. Often inspired by classical mythology, symbolism, and art history, her imagery exists in a world balanced between imagination and close observation. Her fascination with decorative textiles and the relationship between humans and animals infuses her portraiture with layered storytelling—telling a narrative through costume, gesture, and the joyful play of dress-up and make-believe.
In 2009–10, she was nominated as New Medalist of the Year. Her medallic works are held in the collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum and the British Museum. In 2023, she was selected as a Coronation artist by His Majesty The King, and her work is now part of the Royal Collection.
Phoebe has taught for over a decade at the Royal Drawing School across the Public Programme, Young Artists, and Foundation Year. She is currently a faculty member on the Royal Drawing School’s Online Drawing Development Year. Since 2019, she has been based in Boscastle, Cornwall.
