Dates: 21-22 January 2025
Time: 10am–4pm
Age/ability: Adults, all abilities welcome
Tutor: Sam Halstead
Course Description:
This immersive two-day workshop is ideal for artists of all levels, from complete beginners to experienced practitioners seeking to deepen their figurative skills. Each day begins with dynamic sessions working directly from a life model, where you’ll explore proportion, gesture, and movement through expressive drawings and rapid sculptural studies.
You’ll work with soft modelling wax—a medium cherished by masters such as Rodin and Michelangelo—known for its responsiveness and tactile quality. Its flexibility allows for intuitive shaping and bold, expressive mark-making, perfect for capturing fleeting poses and developing form through hands-on, sculptural drawing.
In the afternoons, you’ll build on morning studies by refining your sculptures using secondary references and your imagination. The focus is on blending observational accuracy with personal expression, translating gesture and anatomy into compelling finished works.
Led by sculptor Sam Halstead in a supportive studio environment, this course offers a rare opportunity to integrate drawing and sculpture in a rich, process-led exploration of the human figure.
Group size is limited to 10 to ensure ample space and individual tuition. All materials are provided. Please wear messy clothes or bring an apron and a packed lunch.
For any further enquiries please email us at [email protected], or call 07540 974944.
